Featured Brewery of the Month: Brewery Ommegang
Jul 05, 2017
Brewery Ommegang opened in 1997 to brew imaginative craft beers across a variety of styles, with particular emphasis and respect for Belgian brewing traditions. Ommegang brews nine ales year-round, as well as an extensive and innovative range of seasonal and specialty ales. The beers have won a national following by connoisseurs of fine beer and are distributed in 46 states and internationally. New to the year-round line up are Fruition, a tropically-infused, dry-hopped wheat ale fermented with passion fruit, mango, and kiwi, and Pale Sour, an elegant, drinkable sour beer unlike any other in that it’s aged in stainless steel.
Ommegang is located on a 136-acre farmstead in Cooperstown, New York and offers free daily tours and inexpensive tastings. Inside Café Ommegang, groups up to eight can enjoy a formal setting with table service and a full menu. Groups of all sizes can enjoy a more casual setting with open seating and orders-to-go outside under the covered patio. The brewery’s well-stocked store carries all of Ommegang’s beers, including the occasional brewery-only release, as well as import beers from the Duvel Moortgat brewing family. The store also carries a large assortment of glassware, growlers, barware, wearables, local foods, and chocolates.
In addition to daily visiting options, Ommegang also offers an annual calendar of public events including a summer concert series and a legendary beer festival, Belgium Comes to Cooperstown. Tickets for Belgium Comes to Cooperstown are available each year on April 1 at noon and the event is usually held the first weekend in August.
