Featured Brewery of the Month: Ithaca Beer Co.
Dec 29, 2017
Ithaca Beer Co. was founded in 1998 by Dan Mitchell in a small renovated retail store just outside of Ithaca, New York. The original space had a small 10 barrel brewhouse, a modest tasting bar and sold full growlers and homebrew supplies to its loyal and rapidly growing customer base. Today, Ithaca Beer
brews over 20,000 barrels of beer each year and features both 50 and 5 barrel pilot brew houses and a full service farm-to-table brewpub. Ithaca Beer distributes beer to 45 wholesalers in 14 states from New England to Ohio and south to Delaware and South Carolina.
Ithaca Beer’s flagship Flower Power IPA
continuously garners high marks with Beer Advocate as well as many media accolades. Most recently, Flower Power was recognized as the “25th Most Important American Craft Beer Ever Brewed” by Food & Wine magazine. Ithaca Beer brews numerous styles from its core Flower Power and Apricot Wheat Ale
to seasonally limited release Random Acts, numerous weekly small batch one-offs and a variety of rare, limited and barrel aged offerings from its Excelsior Series.
The Ithaca Beer Taproom brewpub restaurant serves eclectic nontraditional fare and includes many dishes made with locally sourced ingredients as well as vegetables and chickens raised right on its own brewery farm. A popular destination for tourists and locals alike, The Taproom was selected as the 5th Best Brewpub in USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Poll in 2016.
A reflection of its “gorges” waterfalls and parks, vibrant agricultural landscape and quirky college town culture, Ithaca truly is “The Spirit of the Finger Lakes”.
